Moishe’s Bagel with Fiona Hunter
“Exhilarating, full-flavoured stuff, often breath-takingly intricate but played with jubilation … the Bagel acquires the momentum of an express train” – The Herald
The members of Moishe’s Bagel are purveyors of thrillingly original cutting-edge klezmer and folk music. Phil Alexander (piano), Greg Lawson (violin), Pete Garnett (accordion), Mario Caribé (bass) and Guy Nicolson (percussion) play an intoxicating, life-affirming mix of Eastern European dance music, Middle Eastern rhythms and virtuoso performances.
Formed in Edinburgh fifteen years ago, Moishe’s Bagel combines the energy and passion of world folk music with the excitement and soul of improvisation. For this concert the band will be joined by a very special guest, Scottish singer Fiona Hunter. Fiona is one of Scotland’s foremost traditional singers and is fast garnering a reputation as a highly gifted song interpreter. Having developed a particular enthusiasm for the songs of the Scottish Travellers, she has worked with members of the Perth-shire based Stewart family, learning her craft first-hand from the last tradition-bearers of this celebrated folksong dynasty.
Fiona and the Bagels have been working on a new project that pits her Scottish and Gaelic repertoire against their characteristically diverse world folk sound. Come and hear the results!
